First Round of 2026

We kicked off the 2026 season with our first round at Isolated Reef on Sunday, 22nd March. Leading up to the day we were keeping a close eye on the conditions, hoping there would be a wave for us to enjoy together. The drive to Isos felt like forever, hoping and praying we had something surfable.

However, as I rolled down that hill all I could see was a ripple. The waves were not there to run a competition, the final call from Solo and Chloe was obvious. While it wasn’t the start we had hoped for in terms of heats, it didn’t take away from what turned into a truly beautiful and enjoyable morning together.

We began the day with a group stretch led by the wonderful Cherry, helping everyone ease back into the rhythm after an off season out of the water.

From there, we gathered for a club update, where the committee shared what’s been happening behind the scenes over the past few months. It was also a great opportunity to welcome new members and reconnect with familiar faces. We also got to test out our new speaker and mic system which we purchased with our BBQ fundraiser money (karaoke night could be on the horizon!).

A highlight of the morning was John Lamming’s talk on fin and board selection. This was a very valuable session for those looking at trying our new fins or boards.

We wrapped up the day with a delicious BBQ, enjoying good food, good company and the simple pleasure of being down at the beach together. It was truly warming to see our community back together again, sharing skills, knowledge and laughter.

A big thank you to everyone who came along and lent a hand with setup and pack down, it wouldn’t be possible without that group effort.

While we didn’t get the chance to run heats this time, we’re looking forward to scoring some waves for our next club round on March 21/22. Also, a reminder for our ladies, it is Wahine day on 29 March. Always a beautiful day spent together celebrating the wonderful women of our club.
